HOW IT WORKS

One take. One tip.
Hear the difference.

No scripts to memorise, no 40-minute lessons. Pip listens, picks one useful change, and you try it straight away.

1 Say it once

Pick a real moment, like asking a teammate for help. Talk for up to 45 seconds. Messy is fine.

2 Get one useful tip

One specific change, with a clear next step to try in your next take.

3 Say it again, better

Record a second take and play both. Listen for the change, then decide what to practise next.

BetterWords design preview: Say it twice. Sound better. Sample practice and feedback screens show a prompt, one useful tip and a clearer second take, alongside Pip.

A PRACTICE EXAMPLE

Same ask.
A clearer way to say it.

An authored example of putting your request first.

FIRST TAKE

“So, um, this week has been kind of a lot, and I was wondering… could you help me check the slides?”

The backstory comes before the request.

TRY IT THIS WAY ✦

“Could you help me check my slides before Thursday? This week's been packed.”

The ask comes first. Then the context.

Example dialogue, not a recording or result from a tester.

THE SCIENCE

Practice with
a little purpose.

Research on learning and speaking informs our approach. Here's the evidence, and where its limits are.

61.7%

You're not alone.

In one survey of 815 university students, 61.7% selected speaking before a group as a source of fear or anxiety.

Dwyer & Davidson, 2012
Focus

Work on a skill.

Research on musicians linked expertise with accumulated deliberate practice: effortful activities designed to improve performance.

Ericsson et al., 1993
317

Come back to it.

A review of 317 experiments examined how spacing practice and the delay before testing shape recall of verbal material.

Cepeda et al., 2006
Replay

See it differently.

Structured preparation before video feedback helped speakers evaluate their own performance more positively. This was not a test of AI or audio-only feedback.

Harvey et al., 2000

These studies inform our practice principles. They haven't evaluated BetterWords itself, and don't validate a specific app session length or guarantee improvement.

QUESTIONS

Before you try it.

Do I have to record my voice?

Recording is part of speaking practice. You choose when to start and can review microphone and recording settings in the app.

What does feedback look like?

The practice flow centres on a useful next step. AI transcripts and tips can be wrong, so listen back and use your judgement. Demo feedback is clearly labelled when real coaching is unavailable.

Who processes my recordings?

Recordings you choose to send for coaching are processed by the backend and AI services described in our privacy policy. Please avoid confidential information or recording others without permission.

How do I request access?

Complete the short questionnaire below to register interest. We ask for your name, email and phone number with country code, and your agreement for Daniel to contact you personally by email and phone to onboard you from the waitlist, one person at a time. The phone number is only for this waitlist onboarding, not general app use. We’ll confirm your contact details belong to you before discussing your answers, and confirm email ownership before any invitation or optional research email. Joining the list doesn’t guarantee a TestFlight place.

Can I delete recordings or my account?

Yes. The app includes recording and account deletion controls in Settings. If you can't access your account, contact support.
